A think tank report from the UK reveals that British public support for the "special relationship" with the US has sharply declined. According to the latest survey conducted by the British Foreign Policy Group, an independent think tank in the UK, trust in the US among British people has fallen from 53% in 2024 to 38% in 2025.
Many Britons now perceive "returning to Europe" as a more stable option amid uncertainties and policy upheavals. Over 60% of respondents believe that due to President Trump's actions, the UK should establish closer ties with the EU. Furthermore, around 80% support the agreements reached at the EU-UK summit in May, which aim to strengthen defense and security cooperation and reduce trade barriers for food and beverages.
Experts also note that the aggressive and transactional style of the US leadership is out of sync with British political culture, leading to a sense of alienation among the British public towards the US.
