The One Where Monica Gets a New Roommate (The Pilot)
pilot n. a television programme that is made in order to test whether people like it and would watch it
[Scene: Central Perk, Chandler, Joey, Phoebe, and Monica are there.]
Monica: There's nothing to tell! He's just some guy I work with!
Joey: C'mon, you're going out with the guy! There's gotta be something wrong with him!
gotta 是口语化用词,表示 got to/have got to 必须的意思
go out with 与某人约会
Chandler: So does he have a hump? A hump bend and a hairpiece?
hump n. a raised part on someone’s back that is caused by an unusually curved spine 驼背
hairpiece n. a piece of false hair that you wear on your head to make your own hair look thicker 假发
Phoebe: Wait, does he eat chalk?
(They all stare, bemused.)
bemused adj. looking as if you are confused
Phoebe: Just 'cause I don't want her to go through what I went through with Carl- oh!
go through 经历,经受
Chandler: Sounds like a date to me.
Chandler: Alright, so I'm back in high school, I'm standing in the middle of the cafeteria, and I realize I am totally…naked.
cafeteria n. a restaurant, often in a factory, college etc, where you choose from foods that have already been cooked and carry your own food to a table
All: Oh, yeah. Had that dream.
Chandler: Then I look down, and I realize there's a phone... there.
Joey: Instead of...?
Chandler: That's right.
Joey: Never had that dream.
Phoebe: No.
Chandler: All of a sudden, the phone starts to ring, and it turns out it's my mother, which is very-very weird, because- she never calls me!
all of a sudden adv.
turn out to happen in a particular way, or to have a particular result, especially one that you did not expect 结果是
It was a difficult time, but eventually things turned out all right.
weird informal very strange and unusual, and difficult to understand or explain
(Time Lapse, Ross has entered.)
lapse if a period of time lapses, it passes
Ross: (mortified) Hi.
mortified adj. extremely offended, ashamed, or embarrassed
→ mortify v. to cause someone to feel extremely embarrassed or ashamed
As a teenager, making any mistake socially would have mortified me.
Joey: This guy says hello, I wanna kill myself.
Monica: Are you okay, sweetie?
Ross: I just feel like someone reached down my throat, grabbed my small intestine, pulled it out of my mouth and tied it around my neck...
intestine n. the long tube in your body through which food passes after it leaves your stomach 肠
Chandler: Cookie?
Monica: (explaining to the others) Carol moved her stuff out today.
Joey: Ohh.
Monica: (to Ross) Let me get you some coffee.
Ross: Thanks.
Phoebe: Ooh! Oh! (She starts to pluck at the air just in front of Ross.)
pluck v. to pull something quickly in order to remove it 拔,扯
pluck at sth. to pull something quickly several times with your fingers, especially because you are nervous or to attract attention
Ross: No, no don't! Stop cleansing my aura! No, just leave my aura alone, okay? I'll be fine, alright? Really, everyone. I hope she'll be very happy.
cleanse v to make something completely clean
aura n. a quality or feeling that seems to surround or come from a person or a place
Phoebe.
Monica: No you don't.
Ross: No I don't, to hell with her, she left me!
to hell with 让...
Joey: And you never knew she was a lesbian...
lesbian n. a woman who is sexually attracted to other women 女同
Ross: No!! Okay?! Why does everyone keep fixating on that? She didn't know, how should I know?
fixate on v. always thinking or talking about one particular thing
Chandler: Sometimes I wish I was a lesbian... (They all stare at him.) Did I say that out loud?

The One Where Monica Gets a New Roommate (The Pilot)
Joey: Alright Ross, look. You're feeling a lot of pain right now. You're angry. You're hurting. Can I tell you what the answer is?
(Ross gestures his consent.)
gestures v. to move your hand, arm, or head to tell someone something, or show them what you mean 示意
consent n.
1. permission to do something 允许
2. agreement about something
Joey: Strip joint! C'mon, you're single! Have some hormones.
strip 作动词有 undress 脱衣之意,joint 可指 a cheap bar, club, or restaurant 合起来就是跳脱衣舞的娱乐场所
Ross: I don't want to be single, okay? I just... I just- I just wanna be married again!
(Rachel enters in a wet wedding dress and starts to search the room.)
Chandler: And I just want a million dollars! (He extends his hand hopefully.)
Monica: Rachel?!
Rachel: Oh God Monica hi! Thank God! I just went to your building and you weren't there and then this guy with a big hammer said you might be here and you are, you are!
Waitress: Can I get you some coffee?
Monica: (pointing at Rachel) De-caff. (to All) Okay, everybody, this is Rachel, another Lincoln High survivor. (to Rachel) This is everybody, this is Chandler, and Phoebe, and Joey, and- you remember my brother Ross?
De-caff decaffeinated coffee
survivor n.someone who continues to live after an accident, war, or illness 幸存者
Rachel: Sure!
Ross: Hi.
(They go to hug but Ross's umbrella opens. He sits back down defeated again. A moment of silence follows as Rachel sits and the others expect her to explain.)
defeated sad and unable to deal with problems
sit down是词组, 坐下,back是副词
A moment of silence follows
Monica: So you wanna tell us now, or are we waiting for four wet bridesmaids?
bridesmaid n. a girl or woman, usually unmarried, who helps a bride on her wedding day and is with her at the wedding 伴娘
Rachel: Oh God... well, it started about a half hour before the wedding. I was in this room where we were keeping all the presents, and I was looking at this gravy boat. This really gorgeous Limoges gravy boat. When all of a sudden- (to the waitress that brought her coffee)Sweet 'n Low?- I realized that I was more turned on by this gravy boat than by Barry! And then I got really freaked out, and that's when it hit me: how much Barry looks like Mr. Potato Head. Y'know, I mean, I always knew looked familiar, but... Anyway, I just had to get out of there, and I started wondering 'Why am I doing this, and who am I doing this for?'. (to Monica) So anyway I just didn't know where to go, and I know that you and I have kinda drifted apart, but you're the only person I knew who lived here in the city.
gorgeous extremely beautiful or attractive 极美的
夸赞人也可以说,you are gorgeous!
Limoges
gravy n.a sauce made from the juice that comes from meat as it cooks, mixed with flour and water 肉汁
Sweet 'n Low
turn on to make someone feel sexually excited
freak out to become very anxious, upset, or afraid, or make someone very anxious, upset, or afraid
it hit me 使我突然意识到 可以用It hit me that + 句子
wonder to think about something that you are not sure about and try to guess what is true, what will happen etc
对比:wander to walk slowly across or around an area, usually without a clea rdirection or purpose 乱逛,乱晃
kinda adv.
drift apart if people drift apart, their relationship gradually ends
Monica: Who wasn't invited to the wedding.
Rachel: Ooh, I was kinda hoping that wouldn't be an issue.
issue a subject or problem that is often discussed or argued about, especially a social or political matter that affects the interests of a lot of people 问题
[Scene: Monica's Apartment, everyone is there and watching a Spanish Soap on TV and are trying to figure out what is going on.]
Mon
figure out to think about a problem or situation until you find the answer or understand what has happened
Monica: Now I'm guessing that he bought her the big pipe organ, and she's really not happy about it.
pipe organ n.
Rachel: (on phone) Daddy, I just... I can't marry him! I'm sorry. I just don't love him. Well, it matters to me!
注意:在通话中,介词用on on phone
matter v. to be important, especially to be important to you, or to have an effect on what happens
Well, it matters to me!
(The scene on TV has changed to show two women, one is holding her hair.)
Chandler: Ooh, she should not be wearing those pants.
Joey: I say push her down the stairs.
push sb. down the stairs
Phoebe, Ross, Chandler, and Joey: Push her down the stairs! Push her down the stairs! Push her down the stairs!
(She is pushed down the stairs and everyone cheers.)
cheer v. shout as a way of showing happiness, praise, approval, or support of someone or something
Rachel: C'mon Daddy, listen to me! It's like, it's like, all of my life, everyone has always told me, 'You're a shoe! You're a shoe, you're a shoe, you're a shoe!'. And today I just stopped and I said, 'What if I don't wanna be a shoe? What if I wanna be a purse, y'know? Or a hat! No, I'm not saying I want you to buy me a hat, I'm saying I am a ha- It's a metaphor, Daddy!
what if used to ask what you should do or what the result will be if something happens 如果
metaphor n. a way of describing something by referring to it as something different and suggesting that it has similar qualities to that thing

Ross: You can see where he'd have trouble.
Rachel: Look Daddy, it's my life. Well maybe I'll just stay here with Monica.
Monica: Well, I guess we've established who's staying here with Monica...
establish 该词更为常见的意思是:v. to start a company, organization, system, etc that is intended to exist or continue for a long time 建立
Rachel: Well, maybe that's my decision. Well, maybe I don't need your money. Wait!! Wait, I said maybe!!、
(Time Lapse, Rachel is breathing into a paper bag.)
Monica: Just breathe, breathe.. that's it. Just try to think of nice calm things...
breathe v. to take air into your lungs and send it out again 呼吸
Phoebe: (sings) Raindrops on roses and rabbits and kittens, (Rachel and Monica turn to look at her.) bluebells and sleighbells and- something with mittens... La la la la...something and noodles with string. These are a few...
kitten n.
bluebell n.
sleighbell n.
mitten n.
When I'm feeling sad
I simply remember my favorite things
And then I don't feel so bad
Rachel: I'm all better now.
Phoebe: (grins and walks to the kitchen and says to Chandler and Joey.) I helped!
grin to smile widely 咧嘴笑
Monica: Okay, look, this is probably for the best, y'know? Independence. Taking control of your life.
be for the best used to say that a particular event may seem bad now, but might have a good result later
take control of = had/gain control of 控制
≠ lose control of 失控
Joey: (comforting her) And hey, you need anything, you can always come to Joey. Me and Chandler live across the hall. And he's away a lot.
comfort v. to make someone feel less worried, unhappy, or upset, for example by saying kind things to them or touching them 安慰,也可作名词安慰
live across the hall
Monica: Joey, stop hitting on her! It's her wedding day!
hit on informal to talk to someone in a way that shows you are sexually attracted to them 勾引
Joey: What, like there's a rule or something?
Joey
(The door buzzer sounds and Chandler gets it.)
buzzer n. a small thing, usually shaped like a button, that buzzes when you press it
Chandler: Please don't do that again, it's a horrible sound.
Paul: (over the intercom) It's, uh, it's Paul.
intercom n. a communication system by which people in different parts of a building, aircraft etc can speak to each other 沟通联络系统
Monica: Buzz him in!
Joey: Who's Paul?
Ross: Paul the Wine Guy, Paul?
Monica: Maybe.
Joey: Wait a minure. Your“not a real date” is with Paul, the wine guy?
Ross: He finally asked you out?
Monica: Yes!
Chandler: Ooh, this is a Dear Diary moment.
Monica: Rach, wait, I can cancel...
Rachel: Please, no, go, that'd be fine!
Monica: (to Ross) Are, are you okay? I mean, do you want me to stay?
Ross: (choked voice) That'd be good...
choke v. to be unable to breathe properly because something is in your throat or there is not enough air
Monica: (horrified) Really?
Ross: (normal voice) No, go on! It's Paul the Wine Guy!
Ross
(There's a knock on the door and it's Paul.)
Monica: Hi, come in! Paul, this is.. (They are all lined up next to the door.)... everybody, everybody, this is Paul.
line up v. if people line up, or if you line them up, they stand in a row or line, or you make them do this 站成直线,站成一队
All: Hey! Paul! Hi! The Wine Guy! Hey!
Chandler: I'm sorry, I didn't catch your name. Paul, was it?
Monica: Change! Okay, sit down. (Shows Paul in) Two seconds.
Phoebe: Ooh, I just pulled out four eyelashes. That can't be good.
Phoebe
(Monica goes to change.)
Ross: So Rachel, what're you, uh... what're you up to tonight?
be up to 准备做什么,忙什么
Rachel: Well, I was kinda supposed to be headed for Aruba on my honeymoon, so nothing!
be supposed to do used to say what was or is expected or intended to happen, especially when it did not happen
Aruba
Ross: Right, you're not even getting your honeymoon, God.. No, no, although, Aruba, this time of year... talk about your(thinks) big lizards... Anyway, if you don't feel like being alone tonight, Joey and Chandler are coming over to help me put together my new furniture.
Chandler: (deadpan) Yes, and we're very excited about it.
deadpan adj. sounding and looking completely serious when you are saying or doing something funny
Rachel: Well actually thanks, but I think I'm just gonna hang out here tonight. It's been kinda a long day.
hang out informal to spend a lot of time in a particular place or with particular people 口语化用词, 一起玩儿
Ross: Okay, sure.
Joey: Hey Pheebs, you wanna help?
Phoebe: Oh, I wish I could, but I don't want to.

The One Where Monica Gets a New Roommate (The Pilot)
[Scene: Ross's Apartment, the guys are there assembling furniture.]
assemble to put all the parts of something together
Ross: (squatting and reading the instructions) I'm supposed to attach a brackety thing to the side things, using a bunch of these little worm guys. I have no brackety thing, I see no whom guys whatsoever and- I cannot feel my legs.
squat v.to sit with your knees bent under you and your bottom just off the ground, balancing on your feet 蹲坐
attach to to fasten or connect one object to another 贴、黏,依附
brackety adj. 由bracket转化而来,bracket 指 n. a piece of metal, wood, or plastic, often in the shape of the letter L, fixed to a wall to support something such as a shelf 支架
I cannot feel my legs.
(Joey and Chandler are finishing assembling the bookcase.)
Joey: (picking up a leftover part) What's this?
leftover adj. remaining after all the rest has been used, taken, or eaten
Chandler: I have no idea.
(Joey checks that Ross is not looking and dumps it in a plant.)
dump v. to put something somewhere in a careless untidy way;to get rid of something that you do not want
Joey: Done with the bookcase!
have done with something to finish or settle (an argument or a difficult situation)
Chandler: All finished!
Ross: (clutching a beer can and sniffing) This was Carol's favorite beer. She always drank it out of the can, I should have known.
clutch v. to hold something tightly because you do not want to lose it 抓
sniff v. to breathe air in through your nose in order to smell something 闻,嗅
out of the can 指的是不倒出来,就着啤酒罐直接喝,这里Ross是说,Carol喝啤酒都是直接喝的,不女人,很man,早该意识到她可能是个lesbian的…
should have done 本该做(但是却没有做)
Joey: Ross, let me ask you a question. She got the furniture, the stereo, the good TV, what did you get?
stereo n. a machine for playing records, CDs etc that produces sound from two speakers 音响
Ross: You guys.
Chandler: Oh, God.
Joey: You got screwed.
screw 作动词,其中一个意思为: to cheat someone in order to get money from them 欺骗,这里got screwed 就是被骗了。
Chandler: Oh my God!
[Scene: A Restaurant, Monica and Paul are eating.]
Monica: Oh my God!
Paul: I know, I know, I'm such an idiot. I guess I should have caught on when she started going to the dentist four and five times a week. I mean, how clean can teeth get?
catch on v. to begin to understand or realize something
catch on 后一般加to catch on to sth.
It was a long time before the police caught on to what he was really doing.
Monica: My brother's going through that right now, he's such a mess. How did you get through it?
Paul: Well, you might try accidentally breaking something valuable of hers, say her…
say 口语化用词,相当于 such as , like… 比如
Monica: leg?
Paul: (laughing) That's one way! Me, I went for the watch.
go for to choose something 选择
Monica: You actually broke her watch?
[Scene: Monica's Apartment, Rachel is talking on the phone and pacing.]
Rachel: Barry, I'm sorry... I am so sorry... I know you probably think that this is all about what I said the other day about you making love with your socks on, but it isn't... it isn't, it's about me, and I ju- (She stops talking and dials the phone.) Hi, machine cut me off again... anyway..
Hi, machine cut me off again...
[Scene: Ross's Apartment; Ross is pacing while Joey and Chandler are working on some more furniture.]
Ross: You know what the scariest part is? What if there's only one woman for everybody, y'know? I mean what if you get one woman- and that's it? Unfortunately in my case, there was only one woman- for her...
that's it used to say that something is completely finished or that a situation cannot be changed
Joey: What are you talking about? 'One woman'? That's like saying there's only one flavor of ice cream for you. Lemme tell you something, Ross. There's lots of flavors out there. There's Rocky Road, and Cookie Dough, and Bing! Cherry Vanilla. You could get 'em with Jimmies, or nuts, or whipped cream! This is the best thing that ever happened to you! You got married, you were like, what, eight? Welcome back to the world! Grab a spoon!
flavor n. the particular taste of a food or drink 口味
Jimmies
Ross: I honestly don't know if I'm hungry or horny.
Chandler: Stay out of my freezer!
freezer n. a large piece of electrical kitchen equipment in which food can be stored at very low temperatures for a long time 冰箱
[Scene: A Restaurant, Monica and Paul are still eating.]
Paul: Ever since she walked out on me, I uh...
walked out on sb. v. to leave your husband, wife etc suddenly and go and live somewhere else
Monica: What?..... What, you wanna spell it out with noodles?
spell sth. out to explain something clearly and in detail 说清楚
Paul: No, it's more of a fifth date kinda revelation.
be more of 更倾向于
revelation a surprising fact about someone or something that was previously secret and is now made known
Monica: Oh, so there is gonna be a fifth date?
Paul: Isn't there?
Monica: Yeah... yeah, I think there is. What were you gonna say?
What were you gonna say?
Paul: Well, ever... ever since she left me, um, I haven't been able to perform (Monica takes a sip of her drink.) ...sexually.
sip n. a very small amount of a drink 一点
a sip of 一口,一点儿 作量词
Monica: (spitting out her drink in shock) Oh God, oh God, I am sorry... I am so sorry...
spit out v. to force something out of your mouth 吐出
Paul: It's okay...
Monica: I know being spit on is probably not what you need right now. Um... how long?
Paul: Two years.
Monica: Wow! I'm glad you smashed her watch!
smash v. to break into pieces violently or noisily, or to make something do this by dropping, throwing, or hitting it 砸,打碎
Paul: So you still think you ... might want that fifth date?
Monica: (pause)...Yeah. Yeah, I do.
pause v. to stop speaking or doing something for a short time before starting again 暂停
[Scene: Monica's Apartment, Rachel is watching Joanie Loves Chachi.]
Joanie on TV: I, Joanie take you, Chachi, as my lawful husband.
Priest on TV: Do you take Joanie...
Rachel: Oh...see... but Joanie loved Chachi! That's the difference!
What difference?

[Scene: Ross's Apartment, they're all sitting around and talking.]
Ross: (scornful) Grab a spoon. Do you know how long it's been since I've grabbed a spoon? Do the words 'Billy, don't be a hero' mean anything to you?
scorn n. the feeling that someone or something is stupid or does not deserve respect
scornful adj. feeling or showing scorn
Do the words 'Billy, don't be a hero' mean anything to you? 我更倾向于这样理解:《Billy,Don't Be a Hero》是一首老歌,前面Ross说,你让我grab a spoon ,但是你知道我上一次grab a spoon 是多久之前吗?我上次grab a spoon的时候,《Billy, Don't Be a Hero》还在放呢。
Ross: Y'know, here's the thing. Even if I could get it together enough to ask a woman out,... who am I gonna ask? (He gazes out of the window.)
get it together spoken to be organized and successful in your life, job etc
gaze v. to look at someone or something for a long time, giving it all your attention, often without realizing you are doing so 凝视
(Cut to Rachel staring out of her window.)
[Scene: Monica's Apartment, Rachel is making coffee for Joey and Chandler.]
Rachel: Isn't this amazing? I mean, I have never made coffee before in my entire life.
Chandler: That is amazing.
Joey: Congratulations. While you're on a roll, if you feel like you gotta make like a western omelet or something... (Joey and Chandler taste the coffee, grimace, and pour it into a plant pot.) Although actually I'm really not that hungry...
be on a roll informal to be having a lot of success with what you are trying to do 势不可挡的,很有运势的
omelet n. eggs mixed together and cooked in hot fat, sometimes with other foods added
grimace v. to twist your face in an ugly way because you do not like something, because you are feeling pain, or because you are trying to be funny
All: Morning. Good morning.
Paul: (entering from Monica's room) Morning.
Joey: Morning, Paul.
Rachel: Hello, Paul.
Chandler: Hi, Paul, is it?
Monica: I had a really great time last night.
(Monica and Paul walk to the door and talk in a low voice so the others can't hear. The others move Monica's table closer to the door so that they can.)
Paul: Thank you! Thank you so much!
Monica: We'll talk later.
Paul: Yeah. (They kiss) Thank you. (Exits)
Joey: That wasn't a real date?! What the hell do you do on a real date?
Monica: Shut up, and put my table back.
All: Okayyy! (They do so.)
Chandler: All right, kids, I gotta get to work. If I don't input those numbers,... it doesn't make much of a difference...
Rachel: So, like, you guys all have jobs?
Monica: Yeah, we all have jobs. See, that's how we buy stuff.
Joey: Yeah, I'm an actor.
Rachel: Wow! Would I have seen you in anything?
Joey: I doubt it. Mostly regional work.
doubt v. to think that something may not be true or that it is unlikely 怀疑
There is no doubt that……
Monica: Oh wait, wait, unless you happened to catch the reruns' production of Pinocchio.
rerun n.a film or television programme that is being shown again on television 重播
Chandler: 'Look, Gippetto, I'm a real live boy.'
I'm a real live boy.
Joey: I will not take this abuse. (Walks to the door and opens it to leave.)
abuse n. rude or offensive things that someone says 侮辱
Chandler: You're right, I'm sorry. (Burst into song and dances out of the door.) "Once I was a wooden boy, a little wooden boy..."
burst v. if something bursts, or if you burst it, it breaks open or apart suddenly and violently so that its contents come out 爆发
burst into sth.
Monica: So how you doing today? Did you sleep okay? Talk to Barry? I can't stop smiling.
Rachel: I can see that. You look like you slept with a hanger in your mouth.
hanger n. a curved piece of wood, plastic, or metal with a hook on top, used for hangingclothes on 衣架又是一句金句。
Monica: I know, he's just so, so... Do you remember you and Tony DeMarco?
Rachel: Oh, yeah.
Monica: Well, it's like that. With feelings.
Rachel: Oh wow. Are you in trouble.
Mon 感觉自己遇到了真爱,Rach激动地回应道,Are you in trouble.
Monica: Okay. Okay. I am just going to get up, go to work and not think about him all day. Or else I'm just gonna get up and go to work.
or else used to say what another possibility might be 或者
Rachel: Oh, wish me luck!
Monica: What for?
What for≈ why
Rachel: I'm gonna go get one of those (Thinks) job things.
(Monica exits.)
[Scene: Iridium, Monica is working as Frannie enters.]
Frannie: Hey, Monica!
Monica: Hey Frannie, welcome back! How was Florida?
Frannie: You had sex, didn't you?
Monica: How do you do that?
Frannie: So? Who?
Monica: You know Paul?
Frannie: Oh yeah, I know Paul.
Monica: You mean you know Paul like I know Paul?
Frannie: Are you kidding? I take credit for Paul. Y'know before me, there was no snap in his turtle for two years.
take/claim/deserve credit for 对…
there was no snap in his turtle for two years.

The One Where Monica Gets a New Roommate (The Pilot)
[Scene: Central Perk, everyone but Rachel is there.]
Joey: (sitting on the arm of the couch)Of course it was a line!
一开始看剧的时候,我以为是it was a lie,看了字幕才发现是line。百思不得其解,查了字典才发现line的这个含义:a particular type of line in a conversation is a remark that is intended to have a particular effect.
Monica: Why?! Why? Why, why would anybody do something like that?
Ross: I assume we're looking for an answer more sophisticated than 'to get you into bed'.
assume v. to think that something is true, although you do not have definite proof
sophisticated adj. having a lot of knowledge and experience of difficult or complicated subjects and therefore able to understandthem well 多形容人,成熟的
I assume we're looking for an answer more sophisticated than 'to get you into bed'.
Monica: Is it me? Is it like I have some sort of beacon that only dogs and men with severe emotional problems can hear?
beacon n. a light that is put somewhere to warn or guide people, ships, vehicles, or aircraft 灯塔
Phoebe: All right, come here, gimme your feet. (She starts massaging them.)
gimme=give me 美剧里语速比较快,很多连读
massage v. to press and rub someone’s body with your hands, to help them relax or to reduce pain in their muscles
Phoebe
Monica: I just thought he was nice, y'know?
Joey: (bursts out laughing again) I can't believe you didn't know it was a line!
(Monica pushes him off of the sofa as Rachel enters with a shopping bag.)
Rachel: Guess what?
Ross: You got a job?
Rachel: Are you kidding? I'm trained for nothing! I was laughed out of twelve interviews today.
Chandler: And yet you're surprisingly upbeat.
upbeat adj. positive and making you feel that good things will happen
Rachel: You would be too if you found John and David boots on sale, fifty percent off!
on sale 降价
Chandler: Oh, how well you know me...
Rachel: They're my new 'I don't need a job, I don't need my parents, I've got great boots' boots!
Monica: How'd you pay for them?
Rachel: Uh, credit card.
credit card n.a small plastic card that you use to buy goods or services and pay for them later 信用卡
Monica: And who pays for that?
Rachel: Um... my... father.

give sb. a break spoken to stop being strict with someone so that a situation becomes easier for them 放她一马吧,行了吧
Rachel: Thank you.
Phoebe: You're welcome. I remember when I first came to this city. I was fourteen. My mom had just killed herself and my step-dad was back in prison, and I got here, and I didn't know anybody. Ross: The word you're looking for is 'Anyway'...
Monica: All right, you ready?
Rachel: I don't think so.
Ross: C'mon, cut. Cut, cut, cut,...

(Time Lapse, Rachel and Ross are watching a TV channel finishes it's broadcast day by playing the national anthem.)

crash spoken to stay at someone’s house for the night

some time at a time in the future or in the past, although you do not know exactly when 在某个时候
Monica: You be okay?
Ross: Yeah.
Rachel: Hey Mon, look what I just found on the floor. (Monica smiles.) What?
Monica: That's Paul's watch. You just put it back where you found it. Oh boy. Alright. Goodnight, everybody.
Ross & Rachel: Goodnight.

have a crush on sb. to have a feeling of romantic love for someone, especially someone you do not know well 对……
Rachel: I knew.
Ross: You did! Oh.... I always figured you just thought I was Monica's geeky older brother.
figure v. informal to form a particular opinion after thinking about a situation 认为
geeky adj.
geek n. informal someone who is not popular because they wear unfashionable clothes, do not know how to behave in socialsituations, or do strange things

(Rachel goes into her room and Monica enters the living room as Ross is leaving.)
Monica: See ya.... Waitwait, what's with you?
what's with you 怎么了?
Ross: I just grabbed a spoon.
(Ross exits and Monica has no idea what that means.)

Monica: (to Phoebe) Would you stop?
Phoebe: Oh, was I doing it again?

Chandler: Kids, new dream... (Rachel sits down to hear Chandler's dream.) I'm in Las Vegas... I'm Liza Minelli...
Las Vegas
