He'll be singing for his position in the final eight in Monday night's Super battle on The Voice Australia.
But Alfie Arcuri has already lived through one of the biggest battles, revealing he only gained the courage to come out as gay to his family three years ago.
Speaking to TV Week, the 27-year-old said for years he 'tried so hard to think I wasn't gay' and he believed that 'there was something wrong' with himself at the time.
His fear of coming out to his family was so great that he even prepared himself for the reality that they may not accept him at all.
'I prepared myself to be alone as an adult,' Alfie told the publication. 'I just couldn't imagine my family accepting me as being gay.'
However, his family's reaction proved to be only one of support.
'My family was absolutely amazing. I would have come out a lot earlier if I'd known how they'd react,' he added.
Alfie comes from a close-knit Italian family in Sydney's south-west, living at home with his parents and two sisters, with both sets of grandparents living within walking distance of his family home.
He is particularly close with his eldest sister Amanda and her partner and is godfather to their newborn baby.
Despite having no formal singing training, Alfie, who is also an architect, also said it was music who got him through those hard years of feeling isolated when coming to terms with his sexuality.
'As soon as I came out, I was able to express myself in a way I couldn't before,' he said.
Alfie faced-off against Andrew McKinnon on Sunday night's episode of the popular reality series, ultimately making it through to the next round after being chosen by coach Delta Goodrem.
He will now face off in a super battle when the show returns to Channel Nine on Monday evening.
