The alates begin to be enclosed. As I recall there were a total of 90+ males and 38 females. They sat around in the nest for about 1 week to dry out their wings and build up their fat storages.繁殖蚁们闭门不出,我清点了下90+蚊子,38公主.

One afternoon, on advice from a friend, I decide to increase the humidity in their nest by spraying a fair amount of water into the basin (this has the effect of simulating the monsoon/rainy season). WALA, as the sun began to set that evening, they started sending the alates out to the basin on my balcony! Strangely, only about half of the alates left the nest and walked into the basin ready for flight. The rest decided to go back. Some of the majors even decided to push the alates back in.
一天下午,按照一个朋友的建议,我在他们的活动场地喷洒了大量水,模拟雨季的到来.
果然太阳落山后,他们开始将繁殖蚁驱逐到阳台上的活动区(是不是活动区放在阳台,而不是放养？)
奇怪的是大约只有一半的繁殖蚁准备婚飞,其余的决定回到巢中,有一些特化甚至决定把他们拖回来.

Mating pictures:交配的画面 At evening, they swarmed again and the final few decided to leave the nest – all except 1 final queen. She refused to leave the nest. Over the next 2 days, this last alate queen suffered a horrible fate! Slowly, the workers and soldiers bit off her wings, legs, attenas, tied her down, and tore her apart. It seems that they did not want to accept a new queen (though she was still alate!).晚上他们再次聚集，催促繁殖蚁离开巢。只有一只不愿意离开，最终这个公主遭遇了可怕的命运，慢慢的工蚁和兵蚁撕扯她的翅膀、腿、触角，将她撕成碎片。看来他们不希望接其他蚁后（即使她还是带翅公主）And the cycle of life begins again – new queens digging nests, I threw in a few majors to keep them company in their new nests, as the majors are good food storage source for the new delates.新的生命周期开始了-新后开始挖巢。合了几只特化进去，对于新后来说特化是不错的粮食储备。 Hope you have enjoyed it!希望大家喜欢。分析这作者很可能是新加坡人，他的巢我没太搞明白，难道两个塑料盒子是巢，然后阳台散养。。。（woshidyh注：如前述，阳台上只有塑料盒子内是群落的理想居住环境，盒子外算是附加活动区。）
