Brad Pitt shows support at Live 8
9.17PM, Sat Jul 2 2005
Hollywood heartthrob Brad Pitt has shown his support for the Live 8 campaign, addressing the crowds in London's Hyde Park.
The actor was one of the many guest presenters at the gig, and he appeared on stage alone, despite speculation he would be accompanied by rumoured girlfriend Angelina Jolie.
He told the crowd: "By the time this concert ends this evening, 30,000 Africans will have died because of extreme poverty.
"By this time tomorrow evening, another 30,000. This does not make sense. This is why we are here tonight.
"Let us be the ones who say we do not accept that a child dies every three seconds simply because he does not have the drugs you and I have.
"Let us be the ones to say we are not satisfied that your place of birth determines your right to life. Let us be outraged, let us be loud, let us be bold."
He added: "On my first trip to Africa I was startled by a young woman, a young woman with Aids, a woman with children who grabbed my arm and said `Please bring us the drugs, please help'.
"Let us be inspired by her, let us defend her, let us be fighters for her and the lives of her children whatever the cost, whatever it takes.
"We the fortunate, let us remind each other this is what we stand for, this is who we are. Please add your name to the Live 8 list."
