海湾战争　　进入90年代，82师又参加了震惊世界的海湾战争。8月7日，该师一个旅的官兵2000人作为首批部队登机开赴海湾，在沙科边境一线设下了美军的第一道防线。在代号“沙漠军刀”的地面战役开始后，82师协同法军第六轻装甲师在整个进攻集团的左翼展开进攻。部队在伊拉克南部沙漠实施深远穿插，途中攻占了萨勒曼机场，一直挺进到300公里纵深的幼发拉底河谷，构成了围歼南部伊军的最外围防线。　　冷战结束后，美军对部队规模和编制体制作了重大调整。第82师被编入美军应急司令部序列，继续充当美国政府实施海外军事干涉的急先锋
