Glossary of Chinese Painting
Baimiao(白描)--Outline drawing, without color, shading or wash.
Baiwen(白文)--White characters; the characters of a seal cut intaglio, so that they print white with a red background.
Baibi(败笔)--A faulty stroke in ink-painting.
Bi(笔)--1. brush. 2.a brush stroke. 3.stylistic brush stroke (charactering an artist, locality, era, etc.).
Bili(笔力)--Vigour of strokes in ink-painting.
Bimo (笔墨) --Brush and ink; a general term of technique of ink-painting; "brush" refers to the technique of outlining, shading, dotting, etc.; "ink"refers to the technique of using ink in various ways.
Bihua(壁画)--Wall painting; mural painting; fresco.
Bingxuexuan(冰雪宣)--Ice snow paper. It is creamy white and sized, with a soft texture and barely perceptible mold marks, used as a ground in painting.
Bogu(博古)--Curios or antiques as subject matter, coming within the broad figure painting classifications; the painting of pictures of old bronzes, porcelains, etc.
Buju(布局)--The process of planning a composition

Caoyimiao(曹衣描)--The garmen lines used by Cao Buxing(曹不兴)of Han Dynasty. The point of the brush is used, and the strokes are close together, flowing as tributaries into one another, making a continuous rhythm of separate strokes.
Ceye(册页)--An album of paintings or calligraphy.
Cebi(侧笔)--Side brush technique, the brush held and used in an oblique position.
Cengci(层次)--Arrangement of objects (as background, intermediate scene and foreground) in painting.
Chuanshen(传神)--Vivid; lifelike; convey the spirit vividly.
Chuanyi moxie(传移模写)--Venerated traditions (master the traditional skill by means of "transmitting the past"). One of Liufa
Chuanzhen(传真)--To transmit truly; to paint a true likeness.
Chuncan-tusifa(春蚕吐丝法)--Garment lines similar to the strands of silk emitted by the silkworm, also called gaoguyousimiao(高古游丝描).
Cunfa(皴法)--The method of showing the shades and texture of rocks and mountains by light ink strokes in landscape painting.
