MSN Lifestyle: 10 Wearable Fashion Week Trends(02/13/08)

Florals
Everything’s coming up roses for fall with a proliferation of floral prints. Ranging from petit fleurs to larger than life all-over prints, they’re everywhere. Matthew Williamson pixilated his for differentiation.

Plaid 格布
There was bold buffalo plaid at Adam by Adam Lippes, plaids that incorporated florals at Isaac Mizrahi and Thakoon and these plaids were mismatched to perfection at Badgley Mischka. It’s safe to say, designers are mad for plaid.

Dresses 连衣裙
Inspired by old-time Hollywood (meaning the ’50s and ’60s), Michael Kors created some Grace Kelly-worthy dresses. Perhaps it’s the influence of the highly stylized show “Mad Men,” but these types of looks were everywhere.

Brown 棕色

Sure there was a lot of black on the catwalks, but there was also a lot of brown. This much warmer hue is our choice for the base color for the season. And so many designers did so much with it, like this really rich dress from Carolina Herrera.

Red 红色
There wasn’t a whole lot of bright for fall 2008, but there was some red. And the hue was that perfect true red that’s deep, but not too orange. Oscar de la Renta did it best for day; Marchesa for night.

Long and Lean 瘦长

There’s something so right about a long and lean silhouette. For fall, it’s not only trouser suits like this one at BCBG that get this treatment—Donna Karan’s dresses also took on the lean look.

Jewelry 珠宝
The bling is moving off the clothes and onto our necks and wrists. Designers are using less embellishment on the clothes, but are filling the gap with great statement necklaces, like Badgley Mischka’s, and bracelets like Vera Wang’s.

Sculptural
Once designers have mastered the art of draping fabric, it seems they move on to create sculpted looks. Case in point: Doo Ri Chung and Calvin Klein’s Francisco Costa. Both worked in fabrics that stood on their own—like this felt from Costa—to create futuristic looks.

Feathers 羽毛
This look from “Project Runway’s” Christian Siriano and its use of feathers is admittedly over the top, but it’s a striking creation nonetheless. Others designers, from the most conservative to the most out-there, used feathers as accessories and for texture on everything. Birds, beware.
