While Japanese number is about the expectation, Chinese number is surprisingly low. I thought it was going to be like 99% or something like that.

Why is all of this directed at China, when the poll showed even more hatred in Japan

Japanese are not that great of a people imo. Japanese are generally more polite than Chinese, but from my experience they are less friendly. Yes, there is a big difference between politeness and friendlyness. And Japanese often dont have a good attitude towards foreigners to the point of being racist. Of course that is somewhat true for many nations in the region. I am just saying that to single out the Chinese here as some of you did is nonsense.
Also, as others mentioned before, there has been a formal apology by Japan, but no real steps to reach reconciliation.

I don't have very much experience with the Japanese people in Japan. But I do with the Chinese people in China. I agree 100% that they are very friendly.
The Chinese are very open and friendly. Most are very curious about foreigners and over a meal will offer alcohol and cigarettes and ask plenty of questions. They are very nice and welcoming. In my experience the Chinese people are very curious and ask alot of questions about the country you are from, mainly, because I don't think the average person really knows too much about "westerners" or other places outside of Asia . They know the obvious facts. In my case they say "Canada is very big! 2nd biggest! *thumbs up* Canada is very cold!" Most think think Vancouver is our capital city.
So they are funny. But say things with a smile on their face, which is the most important thing.
在日本的时候，我很少和日本人打交道。但在中国，我交游广阔，他们真的都非常友善。
中国人是非常开放和友好的。大多数人对外国人都很好奇，他们在吃饭的时候向你递烟敬酒，并问一大堆问题。他们亲切友好，热情好客。据我所知，中国人非常好奇你来自哪个国家，并且询问你们的情况，因为我觉得普通民众对“西方人”和亚洲其他国家知之甚少。他们知道一些常识。他们会说“加拿大地域辽阔！是第二大国！（翘起大拇哥）加拿大很冷！”大多数人认为温哥华是我们的首都….
他们都很有趣，讲话的时候面带微笑，这才是最重要的。

At least in California or Western Canada, we personally know more Chinese than the average Chinese in China knows about Westerners.
