Last in, first out for veteran pair Tan Fook and Wan Wah
VETERAN pair Choong Tan Fook-Lee Wan Wah were the last
Malaysians to arrive in Paris, barely 24 hours before their opening
match.
But they were the first to pack their bags after a 20-22, 21-17, 18-21 defeat by Germany’s Kristof Hopp-Johannes Schottler.
It was certainly a disappointing final outing in the series for the duo, who had hoped to end their 15-year partnership on a good note.
“It was disappointing to lose in this manner in our last world championships,” said Tan Fook.
“The Germans knew our game too well and were sending the shuttle out of our reach. I will retire after this and start my career as a coach in Hong Kong.”
Wan Wah was also disappointed that they could not stay consistent in the match.
“We could have won it but we were inconsistent. The Germans played exceptionally well.
“I am not sure whether I will continue playing after this. It all depends on whether I can get a new partner and sponsors.”
