Two first half goals were enough to condemn Hearts to a 2-0 defeat at the hands of St Mirren in Wedneday night's Clydesdale Bank Premier League encounter at St Mirren Park.
A third minute Paul McGowan penalty put the hosts in control, before Graham Carey produced a stunning long range strike to double their lead on the stroke of half time.
Hearts made one change to the side that lost to Inverness CT on Saturday, with Denis Prychynenko replacing Fraser Mullen.
Prychynenko lined up in central midfield alongside Callum Tapping and Jason Holt, which meant Darren Barr dropped back from midfield to take up the right back slot.
Within three minutes of kick off, however, Darren Barr found himself in the thick of the action for all the wrong reason as he conceded a foul inside the box following a corner from the right.
Referee Kevin Clancy pointed to the spot and McGowan duly sent Jamie Macdonald the wrong way by slotting the ball into the left corner.
The Jambos were rattled by the early setback and, bar a long distance Jamie Walker effort, were largely ineffective going forward during the opening half hour.
Instead it was the hosts who looked the more dangerous, with Lewis Guy sending a header over from close range following a fine delivery from Carey. The latter then produced a moment of magic on the stroke of half time as he picked up the ball on 30 yds before unleashing a thunderous shot into the top right corner to put the hosts two goals up.
McGlynn introduced John Sutton and Dylan McGowan ahead of the restart, with the former partering Michael Ngoo up front in a 4-4-2 formation.
As was the case towards the latter parts of the ICT tie on Saturday, the boys in marroon looked sharp with two up front and began putting the hosts under sustained periods of pressure.
Clear cut chances, however, were few and far between and the hosts were more often than not able to clear their line and launch dangerous counter attacks down both flanks.
Walker saw several long range efforts blocked by either keeper Craig Samson or an outstretched Saints leg, as Hearts were unable to find space inside the Buddies' box.
The hosts threatened with a couple of half chances themselves and with the Jambos unable to penetrate their backline they comfortably saw out the closing stages to secure all three points.
Hearts now turn their attention to Saturday's home game against Motherwell as they look to get back to winning ways.
