欧元（EURO）是欧洲货币联盟（EMU）国家单一货币的名称，是EMU国家的统一法定货币。欧元（€；代码EUR）是欧盟中十五个国家的货币、这十三个国家是：奥地利、比利时、芬兰、法国、德国、希腊、爱尔兰、意大利、卢森堡、荷兰、葡萄牙、斯洛文尼亚，西班牙，马耳他，和塞浦路斯，他们合称为欧元区（Eurozone）。欧元在香港一般称为欧罗。 
　　1999年1月1日起在奥地利、比利时、法国、德国、芬兰、荷兰、卢森堡、爱尔兰、意大利、葡萄牙和西班牙11个国家（以下称为“欧元区内国家”）开始正式使用，并于2002年1月1日取代上述11国的货币。 
　　希腊于2000年加入欧元区，成为欧元区第12个成员国。 
　　斯洛文尼亚于2007年1月１日加入欧元区，成为第13个成员国。 
　　塞浦路斯于2008年1月1日零时与马耳他一起加入了欧元区，从而使欧元区成员国从之前的13个增至目前的15个。 
　　斯洛伐克于2008年达到标准并将预计于2009年1月1日加入欧元区。 
　　目前欧元区共有15个成员国和超过3亿2千万的人口。 
　　欧元的国家标准代码为EUR。在香港叫欧罗。 
　　1欧元＝100欧分(cent) 
　　欧元是欧洲15国的基本货币单位。2002年1月1日正式在欧洲使用。国际标准化组织的ISO 4217标准代码是EUR。惯用符号是€。

　　欧元是自罗马帝国以来欧洲货币改革最为重大的结果。欧元不仅仅使欧洲单一市场得以完善，欧元区国家间自由贸易更加方便，而且更是欧盟一体化进程的重要组成部分。 
　　　尽管摩纳哥、圣马力诺和梵蒂冈并不是欧盟国家，但是由于他们以前使用法国法郎或者意大利里拉作为货币，现在也使用欧元并授权铸造少量的他们自己的欧元硬币。一些非欧盟国家和地区，比如黑山、科索沃和安道尔，也使用欧元作为支付工具。 
　　欧元由欧洲中央银行（European Central Bank，ECB）和各欧元区国家的中央银行组成的欧洲中央银行系统（European System of Central Banks，ESCB）负责管理。总部坐落于德国法兰克福的欧洲中央银行有独立制定货币政策的权力，欧元区国家的中央银行参与欧元纸币和欧元硬币的印刷、铸造与发行，并负责欧元区支付系统的运作。
