Totally met Zoie Palmer at Comicpalooza this weekend. She was so down to earth and cool.
Basically my experience went like this: I’m a big fan of Lost Girl but no where near the scale of my girlfriend who unfortunately couldn’t be at the event. She asked if I could get her Zoie’s autograph which obviously I was going to make sure happened one way or another because I know how much she loves Zoie.
On Friday, I played quidditch from 5-5:45 and then after went downstairs to get some food. It was pretty cleared out at that point and I saw Zoie almost right away just sitting at her table with no one really around. I knew this would be the best time to get an autograph if I could because I was afraid Saturday might be much more crowded. However, it was just after 6 by this point and I knew 6 was when they finished signing autographs. So I didn’t wanna bother her but luckily my friend drug me over there awkwardly and we asked if she was still signing autographs. At first she said, “Oh no, you just missed it” in a very apologetic tone. I was bummed and was just like, “Ah darn” but then she said something along the lines of she was just joking and of course she would sign another autograph.
I was floored because this was the first time I have ever talked to a celebrity and even though I am a good people person I got very nervous. I joked with her that I had to get the autograph for my girlfriend or she would kill me and Zoie laughed and said,”Wow that is a serious threat and we definitely can’t have that.” As I decided on the picture to use and pen to sign with (way too many decisions to make in her presence might I add), we made small talk talking about how she liked Houston and such. She asked how my girlfriend would like the picture and everything and I said that she is definitely going to love it.
She then asked if I wanted to send a picture to her, and I thought about it for a minute and was like yea that is a great idea. I proceeded to ask how much and the volunteer guy immediately said $10 but she turned to him and said, “Oh no, this one is on me.” I was so gracious and appreciative and probably said so about 10 times. She came around and got between me and my friend for this picture.
I can’t remember what else I said but by this point the conversation and everything had gone on about 5 minutes so I didn’t want to waste anymore of her time. I definitely left thinking that she is such a wonderful person inside and out and she is absolutely hilarious.
On Saturday/ today, I went to the panel, but I’m sure people will post videos later so I won’t go into detail on that. I had more quidditch to play and as I was leaving I thought: you know what I want an autograph for myself. So I went to the ATM, got cash and headed her way. As luck would have it, she was alone again and this time I was much less nervous. She recognized me immediately but I never had introduced myself so she asked what my name was.
As she signed my autograph we made small talk again and I finally got a chance to ask a question that my girlfriend requested I ask her. The question was: What she whispered into Bo’s ear in episode 3 of season 3 right after touching the stick. She said, “Ah I can’t tell you that, it’s a secret. Only two people on Earth know what I said.” I laughed and was like,”Awww so am I going to have to call Anna up and ask what was said?” She laughed back and was like yea pretty much, but then said,”but you know what if you guess it right I will tell you.”
It was fun having this little back forth conversation with her. My friend immediately replied, “Penis.” Zoie laughed and the volunteer there completely lost it just busting out laughing. I turned to my friend and said,”Nah no way it was that because neither of them would have been able to keep a straight face.” I turned to Zoie and said I’m bad at guessing and then asked if it was something sensual. She said,”I don’t know, was it?” Such a tease.
Well anyways then I asked her if she liked Harry Potter and we proceeded to talk about quidditch, or more I explained how we play in real life and said she should come watch. I doubt she was able to actually watch but she was genuinely interested and intrigued which was very cool. We finally starting wrapping things up and I thanked her again and said I hope to she her in the future to which she replied same with you.
As I walked away I looked at what she signed for the autograph and started dying laughing at her coyness. She wrote: “Mollie, I hope one day you figure out what I whispered into Bo’s ear, love Zoie Palmer.” The uniqueness and how she was so personal was unbelievable.
Such an amazing opportunity to meet this women and talk to her on a personal level. Makes me love Lost Girl even more as the cast seems so grounded and very appreciative of their fans. So many other questions I wish I had asked her, but I guess that just gives me a reason to see her in the future.
