1楼 我们所知道的westlife乐队中，五人中有三人都是来自爱尔兰西部的Sligo。现在我就带着大家在这里好好游览一番…… So what do you want to know then? That the town's name is derived from a Gaelic name, Sligeach, meaning 'place of shells'? That, with a cathedral built in 1874, the place is officially a city? That, situated in Eire's northern corner, it take three hours to get there from Dublin (well, if you drive fast like Shane, maybe?!) Or that here's where Shane, Mark and Kian grew up, here's where they hung out. And here's where you just might find the lads when they nip back to the city following months on the road. After all, why not? There are two record shops in Sligo, Star Records and The Record Room. We'd hang out in the Record Room. The earliest record I remember buying from the Record Room would have been Boyzone's first album, Backstreet's Back, and Now 38... The shop's quite cool cos our pictures are hand painted above the door. Bono and Van Morrison are up there too." The Record Room 唱片屋 Shane回忆道，我妈妈在那里买了我们Uptown Girl的碟子。在Sligo有两家音像店，明星唱片和唱片屋 。唱片屋推崇我们的唱片。还记得我买的最早的一张碟应该是Boyzone的第一张唱片，然后是Backstreet's Back，现在已经有38张了……这家店很棒，因为他们把我们的手绘版的海报挂在店铺的门上。Bono和Van Morrison 的也有。 The river in Sligo Garavogue - Shane: "I used to fish on the river with my Uncle Joe, who passed away a couple of years ago. We had a good time back then, I would have been eleven or twelve and we'd hang out down there. He was a great fisherman, and even Nicky is as well, but I'm not that great to be honest with ya! It's nice and relaxing, but I think I've caught two tiddlers my entire life!" |

2楼 Mark: "Nah, on hot days it was nice to go down there - but I'd be too busy playing tennis most of the time. I'd tennis courts near my house and I played in a lot of tournaments, all round the country and a couple of times abroad as well. It's always good to look at though! Garavogue河 Shane又陷入了回忆，二十年前我和Joe叔叔经常来这里钓鱼。那时我们很快乐，我当时只有十一二岁，我们会在那里呆很久。他和Nicky一样都很擅长钓鱼，说实话我不在行。钓鱼令人很快乐也很放松，所以我打算退休后带着孩子们来这儿。 Mark补充道，天热时这里最好了，不过大多数时间我会打网球。我在家附近的球场打，有时参加比赛，参加过全市的，有两次还出国比赛了。不过这里真的值得一看。 Sligo's Gaiety cinema - Mark: "There's one main cinema in Sligo and this is it." Shane: "I used to come here every Friday night! I started going every week with my mates to see all the new releases. It was a big thing as a young fella to be allowed to go out by myself." Kian: "You'd always meet up with a bunch of people you knew down there as well, even by accident." Shane: "Yeah, I went with my mates til I was old enough to go with the girls, I'd probably take a girl every second Friday. I was pretty lucky with the girls at school. Much luckier than I am now, I think!" Gaiety cinema Gaiety cinema 欢乐影院 Mark指出，这里可是Sligo主要的影院之一哦。 Shane开心地说，我经常周五的晚上来这里，我每周和朋友们来这里看最新上映的电影。这对我来说算得上是比较重要的活动了，因为这是（家里）可以允许我单独出去的活动。 Kian也兴奋异常，你在这儿会见到很多人，特别是在有重大活动的时候。 Shane做了最后的补充，是啊，我一直和朋友一起去直到可以和女孩子交往的年纪，那时我就每隔一周的周五带着女孩子去看电影。上学的时候和女孩子一起感觉很幸运，我觉得比现在还幸运！ Toff's Nite Club MJ Carrs Toff's & MJ Carrs - Mark: "Sligo is very small for a city but we have hundred of pubs - I think we have more pubs per square mile than anyone else, something like that. When we were growing up, a lot of clubs would run Under 18's nights. And then we'd go to 18th birthday parties in places like Toffs and Equinox." (The 'Equinox' nightclub has now been renamed 'Envy') Kian: "Most people just hired out the back room of a pub. I did that for my 18th, in a plae called MJ Carrs. We had a karaoke night; I remember Mark sang I Believe I Can Fly, Shane sang Forever Love, I sang Babe, the Take That song. Our mate Graeme, who was in the band at the time, sang Mustang Sally and Brown Eyed Girl." Toff's夜总会 与 MJ Carrs Mark：Sligo虽然是座小城，但是有不少酒吧。每平方里就有很多，估计比其他地方的都多吧？ 我们长大时，就发现很多酒吧都是整晚营业的（对18岁以上）。我们会在Toff和Equinox这些酒吧庆祝18岁生日。 Kian：很多人都会租下酒吧的包间。我18岁时就租过，在MJCarrs的酒吧里。我们唱了一整晚歌。我记得Mark唱的是I Believe I Can Fly,，Shane是Forever Love，我唱的Babe, the Take That song，我们的同学Graeme，当时也在乐队里的，唱了Mustang Sally 和 Brown Eyed Girl." The Open Air Pool - Shane: "It's been shut for a while now but it was open when I was a kid. Now there's a big indoor place in the sports centre, but I was never a big swimmer. I was usually horse riding instead. Or playing football." Mark: "I would've gone down a few times. Everyone knows where it is in Sligo, just as you cross the bridge on the road to Donegal. I drive past it whenever I'm home!" |

3楼 The Open Air Pool 露天游泳池 Shane：我还是小孩子的时候这里开放，但是现在已经关闭了。现在是体育中心的大型室内游泳馆，不过我不擅长游泳。我经常骑马或是踢足球。 Mark：我去过好多次。大家都知道Sligo的这个地方，特别是你穿过桥在去Donegal的路上。我每次回家都路过这里。 Sligo Weekender Offices The Sligo Champion - Kian: "The main newspaper at home is The Sligo Champion, and there's The Weekender too. Before the band I would have been in the Sligo Champion, like, 100 times. There's all the sports stuff, football, Gaelic football, all the musicals we did, and all the bands I was in, easily, 100 times. Sligo冠军报 Kian：家乡主要的报纸就是Sligo冠军报，还有周末。在入队之前我被报纸报道过100次了。有体育版，足球，盖尔足球，还有音乐剧，and all the bands I was in, easily, 100 times. The Hawkswell Theatre The Hawkswell & The Factory - Mark: "There are two theatres in town, The Hawkswell, and The Factory. The Factory does the more arty-farty highbrow productions. I've done a couple of perper acting shows at The Factory. And at the Hawkswell we did Grease, twice, Annie... everything!" Shane: "The earliest show I remember seeing was Bugsy Malone when I was maybe seven. and we did our second show as IOU at The Hawskwell; our first performance was in a hotel." Kian: "That night was just as exciting for us as playing in Wembley. The theatre has 350 seats, backstage is quite big, with 5 dressing rooms. When you walk in there's a bar on the right, and a box office on the left, before the auditorium." The Hawkswell剧院 与 The Factory剧院 Mark：这里有两座剧院－Hawkswell 剧院和Factory剧院，Factory的艺术成就比较高。我曾经在那里演过。在Hawkswell我们演过两次Grease。 Shane：我看过的最早的演出是Bugsy Malone的，那时也就七岁。我们还是IOU的时候在Hawskwell举办第二场演出，第一回在酒店里。 Kian：那晚像在温伯雷演出一样令人激动。剧场有350个座位，后台特别大，还有五间化妆室。在观众席前右边是个酒吧，左边是包厢。 Sligo Town Hall Sligo Town Hall - Shane: "We got our Freedom Of The City from Mayor Rosaleen O'Grady at the Town Hall. In the days of her reign of power. Getting the key to our home town was a big honor, wee accepted it with great pleasure and great pride. I still have the key and all, there's a big box and the key is lying inside on a bit of red carpet, it's cool." Kian: "That was a good night, we went out with our family afterwards for a bit of a celebration." Sligo镇政厅 Shane：镇长Rosaleen O'Grady给予我们进入镇政厅的特权。在她执政期间，能够拥有我们家乡的钥匙是件光荣的事，我们带着欣喜与自豪接受了它。我现在仍然保存着，放在以只大箱子里，钥匙就放在里面的一块红毯子上，挺酷的。 Kian：对于我们和家人来说，这个夜晚挺美好的。 EJs Shops - Shane: "Tesco's, Penney's and Dunnes Stores are the main stores in Sligo. The three big shops." Kian: "Penneys would have been the upmarket one out the lot, and I was always upmarket! But I remember getting excited when my mum let me push the trolley round Tesco as a kid. Now, as well as these ones, the main clothes store was AJ's Menswear, which did the best men's clothes. And I worked there as well so..." |

4楼 Shops 商店 Shane：Sligo主要的购物地是Tesco's, Penney's和 Dunnes 商场。三个规模很大的商场。 Kian：Penneys算是最大的商场了。当我还是孩子时，最大的乐趣莫过于在Tescos推着购物车乱转了。现在，主要的服装商店是AJ's Menswear，都是卖高档的男装，我曾在哪里工作。 Marvel - Kian: "I used to hang out around my street mostly really. There was a green area at the end of my street, with a pitch, and we used to always play football there. There was also a community hall nearby called Marvel - we used to play basketball down there and there were outdoor courts for tennis. I split my time between those two places, me and my cousin Michael, the guy around the corner, David, and our mate McGooks, No, I've no idea how he got that nickname!" Marvel 奇迹 Kian：我经常在这条路上闲逛 。路的尽头是一块绿地，还有一斜坡。我们经常在那里踢足球。附近还有一个叫做“奇迹”的社团会堂—我们在那里打篮球，那里还有一个露天网球场。我往返于两个地方，我和我表哥Michael，还有角落里的那个叫做David的，我们的同学McGooks。我都不知道我们的昵称怎么来的！ Left to right: (1) The infamous Carlton Cafe, that Shane's parents owned and ran up until they retired in early 2002. I remember falling asleep at the tables when the cafe stayed open late - I must've been about six. Then I would come downstairs and wander around sleepwalking sometimes. By the age of seven or eight I'd go down to the shops to run messages, buying in whatever we ran short of. Then eventually I began to do some waiting on the tables and finally learned to do the cooking - I can cook anything on the menu, you know!" Carlton咖啡店 Shane：由我父母一直经营的。我记得以前总是在桌上打瞌睡，以至于耽误营业。我必须在6点钟开门。然后我就下楼，甚至有时会觉得在梦游！在7，8岁时，我就得去商店了解讯息，买些我们缺少的东西。最后我还得在桌子前等待，学习如何烹饪。你们知道，菜单上的菜我都会做！ Morgan, the store run by Shane's sister; Shane's platinum disc, in Morgan (what used to be the Carlton Cafe as it is now). Morgan，Shane的妹妹经营的商店及Morgan里Shane的白金唱片。 Burger King - Mark: "This is where I worked! I still pop in nowadays to see if there is anyone there I might know, but mostly everyone's moved on now. I always prefer to go to Burger King than McDonalds when I'm at home, which is weird, cos everywhere else in the world I prefer it the other way around!" Klan: "I never go to McDonalds or Burger King, very rarely." Burger King 汉堡王 Mark：我以前在这里工作！我现在仍然会去那里看看有没有认识的人，但是人员都变动了。我在家的时候还是喜欢去这里，胜过麦当劳！因为在世界上，这是我最喜欢的地方。 Kian：我很少去麦当劳和汉堡王这些地方。 The Four Lanterns The Four Lanterns - Kian: "I always preferred the local chippers. There's a 4 Lanterns in Sligo which is much better than the big chains. It does a big 4 double burger with special sauce - it's so much nicer!" |

5楼 Kian: "The other good place is The Happy Eater, where they do a great chicken fillet burger. They even make their own coleslaw which tastes amazing." I'd go for the day, or even for the weekend, about four times a year. My mother would make sandwiches for us to take to eat on the way. Or I'd just lift whatever I wanted from the cafe, everything was ready to go from there..." Mark: "I'd go to visit my auntie by train in the school holidays, and it felt like a big adventure. By the time we got to Connolly Station in Dublin I'd be so excited!" 火车站和汽车站 Shane：我可以和同学一起去都柏林的时候觉得自己长大了。我一年中四次，有时在周末。我妈妈会为我们准备在路上吃的三明治，但是我会从咖啡店带我想带的所有东西。 Mark：放假时我会坐火车去都柏林看我姨妈，我觉得更像是一次冒险。到了Connolly站的时候我很兴奋！ More sights in & around Sligo... All kids in Ireland learn a lot of Yeats' poetry at school, and in Sligo there was an annual competition for schoolkids called the Yeats' Cup. The idea is that you win prizes for reciting Yeats' poetry. I won it a few times... in fact (bashfully) I won it five years in a row! We used to go to the town hall from the competition. I knew the inside of the building well be the time we got the Freedom of the City!" Drumcliffe墓地 Kian: Drumcliffe 是Sligo城外的一座小镇，诗人韦伯•叶芝埋葬在这里。所有的爱尔兰的孩子都学过叶芝的诗歌。Sligo的学生每年都会参加名为“叶芝杯”的诗歌竞赛，内容就是比赛背叶芝的诗。我赢过好几次…事实上我蝉联了五届冠军！（羞怯的）。我们还经常因此去市政厅。但是很了解这里的内部情况，因为拥有特权！ Strandhill : beautiful beaches only five miles from Sligo town.
