2楼 The Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas has confirmed that he will call for a referendum on his plan for statehood that implicitly recognize the rights of Israel to exist.He made an announcement as effort failed to persuade Hamas government to accept the idea of Palestinian state coexisting with Israel. Our Gaza correspondent A J reports At the start of the national dialogue, president Abbas set a time limit----ten days. He says that Hamas and Fatah couldn't reach consensus in that time he would call for referendum. Mr. Abbas's deadline expired at midnight of Monday, and just before it, his camp declare the talks a failure. Hamas has reacted angrily. As spokesman said his party regarded the dialogue had barely begun and it was ready to continue talking. And the spokesman reiterated Hamas's view that Mr. Abbas's referendum plan was not the way forward.
